The Soundtrack to my Life

Music has always been a big part of my life. As a child I always remember having the radio blaring or one of my parents favorite CDs playing in my dad’s suburban . Usually a country station was on like, The Moose, 98.1 or a station that played “the good ones,” as my dad would say. The country stations were my favorite and still are to this day.

As I got older, I would actually listen to the lyrics of the songs playing on the radio. I started to understand and connect with them. As a child I would just sing and dance to them, but as I grew up, I realized how important some lyrics are. Some songs are cheerful and put me in a better mood when listening to them, but there are also meaningful and heart felt songs that can help me understand a sad time or a past experience I’ve been through. It’s easier for me to just sit and listen to music; let the music speak to me rather than talking about what I’m feeling at a certain time.

I believe there is a country song for every situation. I have a playlist that I play over and over because I relate to those songs. The lyrics speak to me in a way that nothing else can. Music is inspirational and encouraging. During happy and sad times in my life, music has always been there. Sometimes it’s words that I didn’t know how to say. Other times it’s a song that I can just sing to at the top of my lungs while driving home after a long day at work. I don’t go anywhere without my music or my earphones. I listen to music everywhere I go, whether it’s a long road trip or just down the road for a joy ride.

The reason I chose to write about music is because it is something that is relatable and has helped me through many different phases of my life. In a way, it is like my best friend because each lyric has a meaning. Each week I will pick a different song that relates to my life and write about how it connects to me. Music has always played a big role in my life and it always will. Country music has always been the type of music I've listened to and I don’t think that will ever change.

  1. I listen to country music all the time too and I feel the same way you do. I feel the lyrics in country songs always tell a story and somehow you are able to relate to that story.

  2. I agree! That's why I love country music so much because it relates to everyday people.
